What is prayer?
It is whereby the heart of man is able to flow respectfully and communicate matters of the heart to God. As you might well know, prayer is a communication between man and God and it must always be a communication from the heart. Read the parable told by Jesus below regarding a prayer offered by a Pharisee and a tax collector.
Luke 18:9-14
Analysis: Looking at the prayer of the Pharisee, it is obvious that he was just speaking not communicating. For instance you can tell having a conversation with a person and the person not listening but just saying things they do not actually mean. This is what the Pharisee was doing his prayers were not heart felt prayer it was just talking. The Pharisee went into prayer self-righteously but every man in order to communicate with God you must enter prayer with humility.
Looking at the tax collector you realise that the man was broken within and his prayers were offered in faith and in heart-he prayed matters of the heart. When we go into prayer God is not interested in our credentials He is looks for a man that will pray from his heart in faith so He can act. Because a true prayer offered to God opens the heaven over the earth.
Prayer has an enormous power, never stop praying, every opportunity indulge in prayer.
1 Thessalonians 5:17.
The concept of prayer
Taking into account the prayer of the Pharisee and the tax collector, it reveals also the concept of prayer. Prayer is not a tool or a way to please your conscience or to feel good or boast. But it is God’s free ability bestowed on man for communication purposes whereby one joins his heart to God’s heart through the sincerity and truth in prayer. For instance, If a husband was to express (his love) kindly and heartfully to his spouse, you find that it draws them closer. So it is with prayer it draws man closer and closer with God. As it is done sincerely, one primary thing God is concern about in regards to prayer is that it must be from the heart.
What I am about to say is common among believers at the time of this writing but I know that God is going to change us. Some people pray just to please their conscience, so that they do not have to worry about “I haven’t prayed today”.
Prayer is God’s ordain for communication. For instance soldiers on a battle field always have their kind of telephone to be able to communicate with their military base, for help etc so it is with us and prayer. It is our tool of communication with our base which is heaven.
God did not ordain prayer for religion, He ordain so that every man/woman can speak to Him anywhere/anytime. Religion do not encourage people to pray out of love, it just ask people to pray compulsion. So that they can pat themselves at their back and say I have prayed accordingly as asked.But God wants us to want to pray, God wants us to want to communicate than just follow the principle of man.
The concept: It is to communicate with God from our heart and enjoy every second of it. Is like speaking to someone you love, you do not get tired, actually you love every second spent speaking to them and you do not find or see it to be a waste of time, so must prayer be. We must communicate with God enjoying every second of it, because prayer is a conversation with God. We speak to Him and we also wait on Him to speak back because God can talk. Always want to speak to God, and go into prayer with that desire just to pour your heart through singing, thanksgiving, praise, petition, supplication etc to the Almighty God and I tell you, you will enjoy it. Prayer is prayer when it is done freely from one’s heart and willingly.
Always pray with liberation because every prayer time must be enjoyed because you are speaking to your lover-God. Is like a man or woman having a romantic talk with a spouse.
Why we should pray.
I want you to answer this question, so read the below and do the task. God bless you as you do so.
The reason is simple; why should married couple communicate, so it is as to why you and I ought to pray. In order for a marriage to work and be efficient one of its primary ingredient is communication. So does our relationship with God needs communication.
Rememeber God speaks of us as His bride and He the bridegroom. So the importance of communication within a marriage setting is the same reason.
Task-Write or think deeply of the answers, preferably write it down. At this point, I want you to write down why you will want your parents, spouse, and friends etc to speak to you and why you will want to also speak to them. Also why wouldn’t you like it, if they don’t speak to you and how you will feel?
The answer you get is a reason why you should pray. Imagine being married and your spouses doesn’t speak to you.
At know at this point you should have a reason as to why we should pray but just to also name a few;
It allow us to express how we feel at anytime to God and get His opinion which is truth on matters, situations etc.
It allows us to be able to know His desire.
It allows us to know how God feels about our plans as we bring it in our conversation with Him.
It takes our relationship to a higher level, and brings forth intimacy.
Note: All the importance of communication shows how important it is to pray. Communication was introduced by God not BT or any communication company that we have. God introduce it in the garden of Eden to promote fellowship and intimacy to enable us leave on earth which He place us with dominion successfully and enjoy every day of it. One day at a time to His glory. See the scripture, Genesis 3:8. The scripture confirms how God came to speak to man in the Garden of Eden it just unfortunate that at this time of visit from God man had sin.
